Radiologic or X-ray exams use a low dose form of radiation that passes through the body part and creates an image much like a photograph. At Grace Cottage Hospital these images are digital.
This simple and painless procedure allows physicians to view bones, organs, and soft tissue anatomy as part of a diagnostic evaluation. Depending on the exam, the number of images will vary.
The Technologist is the person that takes your x-rays and then sends them to be read by a Radiologist.
As with other medical procedures, x-rays are safe when used with care. Technologists have been trained to use the minimum amount of radiation necessary to obtain the needed results. Properly conducted imaging carries minimal risks and should be performed when clinically indicated. The amount of radiation used in most examinations is very small and the benefits greatly outweigh the risk of harm.
