Newsletter - Spring/Summer 2001
THRIFT SHOP: Winter clothing (from the
winter that seemed as if it would never end!) has been put away
and the summer items are out on display. For those who haven't
visited the shop for a while, there have been many changes.
The volunteers have been very creative, and have used the space
to show off the items well. However, Jean Maples, coordinator
of Thrift Shop volunteers, can always use more volunteers for
three-hour shifts, either morning or afternoon; call Jean at
254-1258 for more information.
The Thrift Shop is open 10-4, Mon., Wed., Fri., and Sat., and it.s located at the West River Market in East Jamaica (on Route 30, between Townshend and Jamaica). VAN SCHEDULE: The Valley Health Council, in coopera- tion with The Council on Aging, sponsors four van trips a month. On the first and third Thursday of each month, the van makes the round trip between Weston/Londonderry and Springfield (call Helen at 875-6148 for reservations). On the first and third Friday of every month, the van goes from Wardsboro/Townshend area to Brattleboro and back. (Call 365-7140 ext. 118 for reservations). This service provides door-to-door transportation for doctors appointments, shopping, banking, etc. The current van seats just ten peo- ple, so call early to reserve a seat. ROBERT CROWELL SCHOLARSHIP: Thanks to the generosity of Robert and Muriel Crowell, we are again offering a $1,000 scholarship to a West River Valley resident who is pursuing a career in health care. Contact Elaine Scott at 365-7140 ext. 118 for more information. TOE NAIL CLINIC: This free service is offered on the third Thursday of every month, from 9-10:30 a.m. in the Valley Health room in the old Stratton House building. This service is provided by Mary Western, RN, who is trained in foot care, and no appointment is necessary. |
