TO MEET INCREASED DEMAND Anyone who has visited the Messenger Valley Pharmacy in the past year or two knows that it was in desperate need of expansion. When Grace Cottage established the pharmacy in 1995, the pharmacists filled 40 prescriptions on a busy day. By 2000, business had more than tripled, and almost quadrupled during peak periods. "It never got to the point of 'a line out the door', but our space was so small that peo- ple waiting for their prescriptions had to stand pretty close together , they certainly got to know one another," laughed Pharmacy Director Dick Barker. That problem should be solved with the current expansion, which has doubled the pharmacy's size. The additional space permits the return of greeting cards, a fuller line of vitamins and nutritional supplements, and more choice and range in over-the-counter products. "We'd like to encourage anyone who is driving by here on their way to shop in Brattleboro to check here first," said Barker. "If it's pharmacy items they're after, we can proba- bly save them a 40-mile round trip and an hour of their time, and our prices are very reasonable.."
