VALLEY HEALTH COUNCIL

NEW LOCATION FOR THRIFT SHOP: The big news for the Valley Health Council is that the Thrift Shop has moved to Townshend. It's located next to the Mary Meyer factory store on Vt. Rt. 30, just north of town. The volunteers worked diligently to move everything and had the new shop set up for the December 21st Grand Opening, which was a huge success. Workers and customers are pleased with the new space and how well it shows off the merchandise! Thrift Shop hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon., Wed., Fri. and Sat. More people are always needed to help at the shop, especially during the winter when many volunteers go south. If you can help out, call Jackie Peck, who is coordinating winter volunteers, at 365-7835, or stop in the shop to sign up.

RAFFLE WINNER: The very successful Holiday Basket Raffle will become an annual event. Area merchants donated many wonderful items to fill a laundry basket, and the drawing was held on Dec. 21st. Jane Clarke of Brattleboro, said she was "awestruck" when informed that she had won. "Thank you" to all who bought tickets.

TOE NAIL CLINIC: This free service is held on the third Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. in the old Stratton House building. No appointment is necessary; this service is provided by Mary Western, RN, who is trained in foot care.

SENIOR VAN: Ridership has increased on the bi-monthly trips to Springfield and Brattleboro but, thanks to the big, new bus, there is still room for a few more riders for these fun days out. Call Liza at 874-4258 about the Springfield trip on the first and third Thursdays of the month, or Elaine at 365-7140 x118 about the Brattleboro trip on the first and third Fridays of each month.

SCHOLARSHIP: Through the continued generosity of the Crowell family, the $1000 Robert Crowell Memorial Scholarship is available again this year. It's open to a resident of one of the West River Valley towns who is pursuing a career in the health care field. Now is the time to apply for this scholarship, which will be awarded in July. Call Elaine at 365-7140, x118.
