NEW EMPLOYEE PROFILE
SHARI TOPLIFE, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
Radio has changed the course of Shari Topliffe's life, not once
but twice. The first time was in 1993, when she lived in Baltimore,
Maryland and won a contest sponsored by a local radio station. The
prize? A one- week ski vacation for two at Mount Snow. "We didn't
want to leave Vermont at the end of the week - it was so beautiful,"
Shari recalled. Two years later, we moved to South Newfane and my
husband got a job at R. S. Roberts car dealership in Brattleboro."The second time radio made all the difference was this past October, when Shari was driving to her job at the School for International Training in Brattleboro. "I'd worked at the Southern Vermont Home Health Agency for five years, and had just left to work at SIT," said Shari. "I wasn't looking for a job at all, but when I heard the position for executive assistant at Grace Cottage advertised on the radio, it sounded like a perfect fit. I asked around about Grace Cottage and people told me what a great place it is." Shari and her husband, Brian, have a two- year- old son, also Brian. "It can be a little confusing at times," Shari admitted, "but people usually figure out which one I'm talking about during the course of the conversation!" Shari hasn't skied even once since that Mount Snow vacation that changed her life eight years ago; she prefers writing poetry (she's had some published), and working on craft projects in her free time (but who, with a two- year- old and a full- time job, has "free time"?). As for her new job, at the right hand of Administrator "Big Al" LaRochelle? "I'm really impressed with the commu- nication that goes on here," Shari noted. " Three times in a row, recently, I went to tell Al something, and he'd already heard the same information from others. I'm also impressed with the length of employment of people here. 25 years, 30 years. You know it's a good place to be when people stay that long!" Although she's only been at Grace Cottage since November, Shari's coworkers are hoping that she, too, will be at Grace Cottage "for life"!
