The most important, exciting, and successful happening
of the year was the Annual Hospital Fair Day sponsored for the 51st
consecutive year by the Grace Cottage Auxiliary. Preliminary figures
show gross receipts from the big day to be in excess of $76,000. An
exact final total will be announced at the annual Auxiliary meeting
on October 24. Individual booth totals will also be announced, as will
expenses, and the net amount to be given to the Otis Center to reduce
its financial burden.
Under the leadership of chairman Stan Holt, more than
200 volunteers performed their duties enthusiastically and cheerfully,
and contributed to the great feeling that existed among fairgoers on
the crowded common. New, energetic volunteers and new booths added much
to the success of the festival. The "Best Decorated Booths" contest
created some spirited competition, while brightening up the Fair Grounds.
The winning booths: Antiques, Costume, Fried Dough, and Plants/Flowers.
An encouraging finish: At the end of the long, fatiguing
Fair Day duty, many of the volunteer participants were enthusiastically
talking about what they would do NEXT year to improve their specialty!
With such spirit, there is no need to worry about the success of future
Fair Days.
