Fall / Winter 2000
It's a reality! Thanks to the generosity
and enthusiasm of donors Dr. Marvin and Connie Wool,
Steve and Joan McConnel, and Scott Heller, president
of Communication Industries Corporation of Grafton,
Grace Cottage now has a state-certified Emergency
Training Center. The goal of the Center is to prepare
EMT personnel to deliver emergency care to patients
prior to arrival at the hospital. Mark Onyon, a certified EMT instructor who has been coordinating Grace Cottage's ambulance service for the past three years will be in charge of the EMT Center; Dr. Robert Backus will be the Medical Director. Classes will also be held in basic first-aid training, continuing education, and CPR training. Community response has been very enthusiastic; in fact, the first EMT class is already booked. Classes will be held at night, during the day, and on weekends, in order to accommodate volunteers, who come from Townshend and numerous surrounding towns. The Inez and Sidney Bock EMT Training Center is named after Connie Wool's parents, longtime summer residents of Townshend. "From the start, Inez and Sidney shared the pride in Grace Cottage and Dr. Otis and his colleagues," said Connie. "In their later years...they had the reassurance that Grace Cottage was just down the hill, and that it was there 24-hours a day, every day. They would be proud that the EMT Training Program will now have a role in training future generations of emergency medical personnel." The room in which the EMT Training Center is located will be named in memory of Scott Heller's father, Joseph Heller, founder of Communication Industries Corporation. |
