An Excerpt of Dr. Bob Backus's Words About
Effie - Fair Day, 2000
"A woman of untiring loyalty to the institution,
rich in common sense, imbued with a work ethic that
says, "If you see a job that needs doing, do it,
and do it until it is done." A woman "born to help
others," an ethic learned at her parents' knees,
sprung from a wonderful family, a family of great
good humor. A woman who loves to laugh. A facilitator,
meaning one of those people who is always thinking
of ways we can help each other to help create a
more loving and happier environment for our patients.
A woman who abhors conflict, but who can calm the
most turbulent waters. A very kind, loving woman
who says what she will miss most in her retirement
are the people, i.e. her co-workers and the patients."
A Letter From Effie...
"Thank you to the Board of Trustess, Dr. Backus,
and Albert LaRochelle, the staff of the Otis Health
Care Center, and members of the community, along
with my family, for the wonderful retirement send-off
on Fair Day. What wonderful memories I have. A special
thank-you to Andrea Seaton and Don Leigh, who arranged
the program and the wonderful cake.
I will enjoy my three days on the coast of Maine
and think of everyone here. I have enjoyed the many
years working at the Otis Health Care Center and
have met and worked with many wonderful people,
I will miss all of them.
Thank you to all."
