LAST BABIES DELIVERED

Between August 7, 1949, when the first baby (Hollis Wright of East Dover) was delivered at Grace Cottage, and December 23, 2002, when the last baby arrived (Logan Robarge of Townshend), approximately 2500 babies were born here. They'll continue to march behind the stork at Fair Day; this year the parade will be led by:

  • Zabin O’Brian Harris was born to Tammy & Guy Harris of West Townshend on October 15, 2002.
  • Logan Christopher Benson Robarge was born to Melissa Robarge and Adam Benson of Townshend on December 23, 2002.
  • Evan Jay Murchison was born to Rebekah and Todd Murchison of Brattleboro on December 10, 2002.
Thankful family members write:

“Dr. Backus, I am deeply grateful to you and to the entire staff of Grace for the professionalism and kindness shown towards my father, Larry Martin, during his last illness. Dad was very precious to us and the knowledge that he was receiving such good care was an enormous comfort to the family at a very painful time.”

Tracy Martin, Brownington, VT

"Dr Backus, your ears must be burning. I've not been shy with my praise for you and the hospital. I take considerable comfort that [my husband] died in the best possible place with the best possible care."
Molly Martin, Marlboro, VT
