AUXILIARY HAPPENINGS

“Hide not your talents, they for use were made. What’s a sundial in the shade?”
Benjamin Franklin

As we approach the 53rd Annual Hospital Fair, the Auxiliary has need of your talents. Specifically, for August 2, 2003, we are looking for:

• Auction Chairperson: Coordinates pick ups for the auction and works with a dedicated team to arrange and deliver items to the auctioneer during Fair Day.
• Bingo Chairperson: Recruits helpers and oversees Bingo on Fair Day.
• Raffle Chairperson: Coordinates people to sell raffle tickets at events in June and July, and oversees the raffle booth on Fair Day.
• Clothing Booth Chairperson: Receives and sorts clothes at Leland & Gray High School a week before Fair Day, and oversees the booth on Fair Day.

Everyone is invited to share their talents in preparation for the Fair, on Fair Day, or Sunday morning clean up. Keep in mind auction items - we'll pick them up anytime, anywhere.

The founders of our valley and mountain towns shared Ben Franklin's knowledge that communities and organizations thrive when people share their time and talents. Call Stan Holt at 365-4455 for more information.

PROFILE OF A PRESIDENT

Stan Holt is such an incredibly modest man that he protested against a Cottage Door profile. Indeed, mention to Stan that you saw this article about him, and he'll reply with a blush, as he moves on to a topic he's more comfortable with. But the time and effort that he puts into the Auxiliary and Fair Day, year round, deserve to be acknowledged. His jokes, well, that's another story (just kidding, Stan!).

A native of Hartford, CT, Stan graduated from Middlebury College, then Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He was a minister at a rural parish in St. Lawrence County, New York, and then campus minister (representing four different denominations) at the Univ. of Cincinnati. He later became a community organizer in Chicago, Providence, Baltimore and Boston. In 1981, he and his wife, Marge, left urban life in order to log and grow Christmas trees in Townshend, but Stan still serves as a consultant to the Massachusetts Public Health Association and the Rhode Island Campaign Against Child Poverty; he's also a board member of Windham County’s Youth Services. Stan and Marge have four children and nine grandchildren.
