The Gift Of Giving
Several dear long-time friends have passed away after long, full
lives - what they had in common (in addition to longevity) was a
love of Grace Cottage Hospital, which was remembered by all of them
in their wills:
 |
Colonel Roy Brooks - Roy died in July, 2006
at age 94. A highly-decorated Army officer who served in WWII
and Korea, Roy then taught math and science at Leland &
Gray Seminary. In his will, he remembered many area organizations
and scholarship funds. |
 |
Mary Dewey - A native and almost lifelong
resident of Wardsboro (she moved to South Carolina in 2001 to
be near her daughter), Mary Dewey died in September, 2005 at
age 97. An elementary school teacher in Wardsboro, Brookline,
Dover and Jamaica, Mary was grateful for the healthcare Grace
Cottage provided to the community. |
 |
Helen Durant - Helen died in September, 2006
at age 97. An intensely private person, Helen was a noted author
and filmmaker who was born in Amsterdam; she spent the second
half of her active life in Vermont. |
 |
Wales Read - A lifelong resident of West
Wardsboro, Wales Read died in March, 2007 at age 89. His craftsmanship
was renowned, and his donations of wooden furniture and trays
were always sought after at Grace Cottage’s Fair Day auction. |
