GRACE COTTAGE FOUNDATION ADDS NEW BOARD MEMBERS

The Very Reverend Dr. James KowalskiThe Very Reverend Dr. James Kowalski has joined the Grace Cottage Foundation board after a long association as a Grace Cottage supporter. Jim and his family have been second homeowners in Townshend for twenty years; his wife, Dr. Anne Brewer, is a graduate of University of Vermont Medical School, and is Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Stamford Hospital in Connecticut.

Currently the Dean of St. John the Divine in Manhattan, Jim was the Rector at Saint Luke’s Parish in Darien, CT (1993-2002) and the Rector at Church of the Good Shepherd in Hartford, CT (1982-1993). He is a graduate of Trinity College, Episcopal Divinity School, and Hartford Seminary. He enjoys hiking, biking, reading and traveling, and describes his golf as “barely passable”. Jim and Anne’s daughter, Becky, is currently attending medical school at SUNY, and their son, Matt, is studying engineering at Northeastern.

“Health and quality of life are gifts never to be taken for granted - and I hope as a Director never to take for granted the role Grace Cottage Hospital plays enhancing both, for so many,” said Jim.

Margaret Stone MacDonaldMargaret Stone MacDonald’s affiliation with Grace Cottage Hospital dates back to her childhood. “My parents, Shep and Charlotte Stone, were friends of Carlos and Ruth Otis’s,” Margaret recalled. “In fact, Dr. Otis was responsible for finding a wonderful house for my parents to buy in South Newfane, the house that I enjoy so much!”

Margaret is a Senior Writer-Editor at The MITRE Corporation, where she has worked since 1986. She has a BA in German Literature from Radcliffe College. Her husband, Gordon MacDonald, was a noted geophysicist, academician, VP and Chief Scientist of The MITRE Corporation and advisor to several U.S. Presidents on environmental issues; he died in 2002. Margaret lives in Arlington, MA, but spends as much time as she can in South Newfane. She has been an avid supporter of Grace Cottage Hospital for many years.
