Portable forma-splint pan, for fabrication of custom hand splints. (You probably don’t want to know this, but Crystal Mansfield, the new OT with a specialty in hand therapy, is using an electric frying pan to create the splints). The cost is $1,000 (to replace a frying pan?! Yes, it will work far more efficiently and effectively!).

Intermittent Suction Machine - $1,700. This machine is used in the ER to empty the contents of a patient’s stomach.

Blood Bank Refrigerator. Grace Cottage must always keep an adequate supply of blood on hand for transfusions, and blood must be refrigerated at a constant temperature. The compressor on Grace Cottage Hospital’s 11-year old laboratory refrigerator died recently, tripping the breaker. The cost of a new blood bank refrigerator, complete with remote alarm, is $8,000.
