IN MEMORIAM

Shirley Greenwood died at Grace Cottage Hospital on May 11,
at the age of 87. A native of Townshend, Shirley worked at Grace
Cottage for more than 40 years, and there were very few jobs
that Shirley hadn’t done, including running the kitchen, washing
laundry, setting broken bones with Dr. Otis in the early days,
cleaning rooms and making beds. “Her kindness and willingness
to go the extra mile were the essence of Grace Cottage from
way back!” said one woman who worked with Shirley for many years.
According to Dr. Robert Backus, who spoke at Shirley’s funeral,
“The essence of the life of Shirley Bills Greenwood can be summed
up in two words: loving care. Loving care delivered out of two
twinkling beautiful blue eyes framed with a lovely smile. Loving
care delivered with honesty, humor, and a Vermont maple-solid
common sense. Loving care matched with an impeccable work ethic.”
And Shirley’s apple pies were second to none. |

Anne Marie Perrotti, 54, a Licensed Nursing Assistant at Heins
Home, died suddenly on March 27 at her home in Townshend. “Chookie”
is greatly missed by her family and friends, as well as the
residents and staff at Heins Home who knew that, as her obituary
said, she had “a wicked big heart.” Before embarking upon her
nursing career, Anne Marie was a multi-talented jack-of-all-trades
who worked as a truck driver, berry picker, waitress, and aerobics
instructor. Her energy and enthusiasm are greatly missed, as
are her great big bear hugs. |
