VERY STRONG LIVING!
 |
| (l. to r.) Pat Ballou, Nancy Evans, volunteer Sharon Tierra
and Ruth Lamprey strengthen their bones at Grace Cottage. |
Move over, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to make room in the “Body
Builders Hall of Fame” (is there such a place?) for these
West River Valley Weightlifters. Twice a week, twelve women meet
for the Strong Living Program at Grace Cottage to strengthen their
bones, under the supervision of Physical Therapist Brian Stoning
and Strong Living trained volunteer Sharon Tierra.
A 12-week program of “community-based exercise for older adults”,
Strong Living is sponsored by Tufts University and the Vermont Department
of Health. Participation in the program is said to improve strength,
balance, mobility and mood in both sedentary and active individuals.
The program is open to both men and women (no men signed up for
the Grace Cottage program—where are you?!), and the average
age of participation for all Strong Living programs in the state
of Vermont is 72 for women and 73 years old for men.
For more information on Strong Living at Grace Cottage, call Brian
Stoning at 365-7920 x. 143.
| An appreciative family member writes:
“It occurs to me that perhaps the meaning of ‘Grace
Cottage’ goes further than I had thought. It was apparent
that our Dad was allowed to peacefully pass away to heaven
while in the comfort of a ‘Cottage’ (how cozy
that must feel), all the while being given the opportunity
to pass away with dignity and ‘Grace’. Thank you
all for your compassionate professionalism…”
