AUXILIARY NEWS
Everybody Wins!
The one booth at Grace Cottage Hospital Auxiliary’s annual Fair
Day that is really for little children is the fish pond. Children
come forward, pay their fifty cents and get a fishing line. In the
water is a wooden fish with a hook on its back. The fishing line
has a ring at the end which the child puts through the hook. When
the fish is brought up the child gets a prize. Every child wins.
In fact, everyone wins. The parent is delighted by the dexterity
of the child, and the volunteer running the booth has the pleasure
of watching the delight on children’s faces when the fish is caught.
Want to volunteer to run the fish pond this year? The position
is vacant, and it’s a very gratifying job. Hospital Fair Day this
year is August 4th. Put it on your calendar. As a matter of fact,
there are quite a few other volunteer opportunities at the Fair.
If you and/or anyone in your family can volunteer, even just a couple
of hours in a booth, this will help us a lot.
There are many winners at the Fair. At the auction last year, we
auctioned art at a designated hour in the afternoon. The art --
which was donated by local artists and generous individuals sold
well -- making everyone a winner. The donors have the satisfaction
that their art brought a decent price, and the buyer walked off
with a treasure. Three paintings by a nationally-known artist were
put into a Boston auction, which resulted in a very nice donation.
Please go to your studio, the attic or the closet, and select a
piece of art to take to the Grace Cottage Foundation office at 74
Grafton Road in Townshend, where they will display it until Fair
Day.
I have to say that the biggest winners as a result of Hospital
Fair Day are hospital patients and their families and friends. This
fall, proceeds from Fair Day enabled the hospital to build a desperately
needed 57-space parking lot for the staff and visitors. One day,
you’re cruising around hoping to find an open space, and the next
day you’re wondering which open spot to settle in!
Each year it has been win, win, win, and working together in 2007
we will do it again with the help of so very many people including...we
hope...you!

RUTH W. PELSUE AUXILIAN OF THE YEAR
The
Auxiliary is proud to announce that Don Hazelton received the 2006
Ruth W. Pelsue Award for Auxilian of the Year.
Don’s pleasing personality and ever-present smile always
make it a delight to work with him. Although busy with his own maple
sugaring business, he is a self-motivated volunteer who can always
be relied upon to help wherever needed. In addition to his work
with Grace Cottage, he also does volunteer work with a number of
agencies in the Dummerston area.
Don’s participation in Hospital Fair Day goes back many years,
and his expertise has resulted in many safety and efficiency improvements.
And, remarkably, he never has to be asked…..he just seems
to show up when and where he is needed.
In addition to his time, he has been very generous with his money
and has donated thousands of dollars over the years towards tools
for the hospital’s maintenance department.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
We are still receiving donations to our 2006 membership drive.
As always, your loyal support and generosity are very much appreciated.
Folks who made a membership contribution of $20 or more were entered
in the 2006 drawing for a “luxury weekend in the big city.”
We are pleased to announce that Eileen Fahey of Townshend was the
lucky winner. Congratulations, Eileen.
