AUXILIAN OF THE YEAR
At Grace Cottage Auxiliary’s Annual Meeting this fall,
Betty Coleman of Jamaica, VT was presented with the annual
Auxilian of the Year Award, much to her surprise. The Auxiliary
also paid tribute to Betty in their 2004 Annual Report:
“A special thanks to a special lady for 54 years of dedicated
service with Fair Day’s ‘White Elephant’ booth. Betty’s
creativity, boundless energy and enthusiasm, topped off
with an endless smile, have touched us all. It has been
a real privilege working with you, Betty.” |

SEEKING ARTWORK FOR FAIR DAY
As we approach the 55th Grace Cottage Hospital Fair Day,
we need your help to build the auction inventory. Last year,
a few art pieces did very well. Wolf Kahn, a nationallyknown
landscape artist, donated a painting that raised over
$2,000. Less noticed was a painting that sold for $300. This
painting had been left in my barn along with other items last
winter; I don’t remember who put it there.
The thought occurred to a number of us that there must
be works of art that no longer hang in our homes, but are
stored in attics and closets. It is said that ‘Beauty is in the eye
of the beholder.’ At the auction we have lots of beholders.
Now all we need is the art.
It is our understanding that the price art sells for at an
auction qualifies as a tax-deductible contribution. The
Hospital Auxiliary would be pleased to gather art work
from your home, store it until the Fair, and give you a
statement of its value based on what it brings at the auction.
With more art to auction, advance publicity will bring more
art buyers to the Fair.
If you have any interest in this opportunity, please call me at
(802) 365-4455 or e-mail me at spenholt@sover.net,
or call Andrea and Mary at Grace Cottage Foundation, (802) 365-9109.

IN MEMORIAM
Jean Pratt Fisher, a long time West River Valley resident,
passed away in the hospice suite at Grace Cottage in
January. An avid supporter of the hospital, Jean donated
her beautiful oil paintings to the employee Fair Day raffle
and to the Fair Day Auction during many decades. Jean was
beloved by the Grace Cottage staff and is greatly missed.
