THRIFT SHOP - It's been almost two years since the
Valley Health Council Thrift Shop moved to its current location, but
many people are still surprised to hear that it's right next to the
Mary Meyer Outlet on Route 30, just north of downtown Townshend! It's
set back from the road about 100 feet, with plenty of parking. The
staff is very pleased with their "new" digs. The shop includes a very
large, open room with lots of light, thanks to the many big windows
and French doors. There's even a dressing room!
The merchandise, which is rotated frequently, includes clothing, jewelry, household items, shoes,
kitchenware, books, and small appliances. Name-
brand items such as Old Navy, Gap, L. L. Bean,
Lands' End and Pendleton are usually available, and
all items are inspected before they're displayed - if
clothing is ripped or stained, it's put into the Free
shopping cart in the foyer outside the entrance.
Donations, of one or two bags at a time, are usually
welcome, but call first to make sure there's space.
Thanks to a very generous community, the volunteers are sometimes overwhelmed!

| "We are writing to let you know how excellently
we were treated by your ambulance staff. They very kindly drove
my wife and I back home (from Grace Cottage) after an ambulance
call at 2 a.m. and then early the next morning they returned
to our home on Townshend Acres to help us get our car started
- it had a dead battery. The whole hospital staff, including
Dr. Tim Shafer, were very helpful and caring. We appreciated
such kindness and compassion, and take this opportunity to thank
each and every one." Charles & Edith Sirois
