Betty Ann HazellIn Memoriam

Betty Ann Hazell, Grace Cottage’s Vice President of Patient Care, died in a car accident on Saturday, August 25. Her sister, Helen “Snooker” Hamilton, was also killed in the accident. The two were returning from a tennis tournament at Yale University when their car was rear-ended in Windsor, CT, by a drunk driver.

Although Betty Ann had only been at Grace Cottage for eight months, her impact on co-workers and patients was immense.

“Betty Ann’s trajectory across our sky was like a twinkling star, fast moving, bright, optimistic, course constant, capable of inspiration, elegant in attire and grooming, energized and energizing, glowing but not blinding,” said Dr. Robert Backus at a memorial service held August 29 by Grace Cottage employees. She is greatly missed, but her legacy at Grace Cottage lives on.
