EMPLOYEE PROFILE
CHRIS HOTCHKISS,
SPEECH THERAPIST
Grace Cottage’s new speech therapist, Chris Hotchkiss, is happy that
she’s made the choice to live in Vermont and to work at Grace Cottage.
A native of Windsor, CT, Chris received her teaching degree from Southern
Connecticut College. She then moved to California, where she went
back to school and received a certificate in Respiratory Therapy,
but it wasn’t a perfect fit.
“So I went back to school a third time,” said Chris, “and
this time earned a degree in Speech Therapy, which is a
nice cross between teaching and Respiratory Therapy!”
After five years in Chico, CA, Chris moved to Brookings,
Oregon, where she worked for three years as a Speech &
Language Practitioner in a private practice. In 1996, she
moved back to Connecticut to take a position in an acute
rehabilitation facility in Hartford, CT, so that she could
be close to her aging mother, but she found she longed to
be in more rural Vermont.
“I bought a fixer-upper house in Whitingham, VT, and
here I am”, said Chris. “What I love about Grace Cottage,
and about speech therapy in general, is that I see
positive outcomes - patients in Rehab are improving
from injuries, strokes, and so on. I like the diversity of
patients here, and the wide range of age groups.”
When she’s not working, Chris enjoys kayaking on the
West River and in area lakes, and she’s looking forward
to cross-country skiing....but then, there’s always that
“fixer-upper” house demanding her attention as well!
