A grateful father says:
“Our daughter Meredith injured her shoulder
when she was checked on the boards at a game
in West Hartford, Connecticut. Although the
nearest hospital ER was just five minutes away,
we were told that, on a Saturday afternoon,
the wait might be as much as 3 to 4 hours. We
were planning to come up to our second home
in Grafton after the game anyway, so we drove
about 90 minutes to Grace Cottage’s ER. Dr.
Backus walked in, dressed in his flannel shirt,
holding his little doctor’s bag, and saw us right
away. He talked to Meredith for awhile, had
her move this way and that, and then put her
shoulder in a sling.
After a week in Grafton, we went home and my
daughter went to a well-known Sports Medicine
doctor in New Haven. After she went through
a lot of tests, he gave us exactly the same
diagnosis that Dr. Backus had back in Grace
Cottage’s ER!”
