| MARY MEYER SAVES THE DAY AND GRACE COTTAGE BENEFITS

Walter and Kevin Meyer met Alison & Lauren Knasin at Mary
Meyer Corp. to share the story of Lauren’s stuffed dog “Jakey”.
When 7-year-old Lauren Knasin, of Cranston, RI, lost
her beloved stuffed dog, Jakey, while at sleepover camp this summer,
she was devas-tated. “He was mine since I was a baby,”
said Lauren. Her parents, Paul and Ellen, searched the Inter-net
for days until they tracked down the manufacturer - Mary Meyer Corporation
in Townshend, VT. Unfortunately, this particular mod-el had been
discontinued years ago. But Steven Meyer refused to give up. He
searched the warehouse until he found the one remaining “Danny
Dog” a.k.a. “Jakey” in storage, and he sent it
to Lauren’s home. In lieu of payment, Mary Meyer employees
suggested that the Knasins make a donation to Grace Cottage Hospital,
which they did. The Brattleboro Reformer ran an article featuring
the good news when the Knasins subse-quently visited the Mary Meyer
headquarters and joined Grace Cottage employees for lunch. “Mary
Meyer Corporation and Grace Cottage Hos-pital are very similar in
that we’ve both built our reputations on personal service,”
said Grace Cottage’s Andrea Seaton.

Grace Cottage Hospital has been a longtime member of Hospitals
for a Healthy Environment, also called H2E. This is a national
movement for environmental sustainability in health care -
a system that embraces safer building products, clean air,
energy and water efficiency, safe working practices, and a
commitment to public health demonstrated in many ways, including
the reduction of waste volume and toxicity.
