THE PIANO MAN

It was on Easter Sunday that Don Maher of Newfane fell on some ice behind his house, fracturing his left wrist. Nobody wants a broken wrist, but it’s particularly difficult for someone who is as avid a musician as Don is: a pianist, church organist at the Newfane Congregational Church, and a hand bell ringer! The break didn’t heal as well as Don would have liked, and the swelling around his knuckles was bad.

THE PIANO MAN
Occupational Therapists Julie Haselton and Mike Monteiro, with Don Maher on piano!

“I started working with Mike Monteiro and Julie Haselton at Grace Cottage Rehab”, said Don, “and my experience has been so pleasant, and their work so effective. They give me lots of ‘hands on’ exercises to do and they’re very interested in the outcome. Both Mike and Julie are highly professional and very personable people. They set goals for you, and then help you achieve them, and they have the very latest methods for dealing with wrist fractures — Julie had just completed a two-day workshop on this very subject! I always looked forward to my visits with them, and I can’t thank Mike, Julie and the Grace Cottage Occupational Therapy program enough.”
