Exemplary Employees Recognized
 |
| Employees of the Month (l. to r.): April DeSoto, Mark Onyon, Suzanne Petronic |
April Desoto, LNA (July) -“April puts her
patients ahead of anyone else. She makes sure they have what they
need at all times. She is always happy and pleasant, with a great
big smile for everyone.” April lives in Saxtons River with
her four children, ages 1 through 13. April’s been employed
at Grace Cottage for two years.
Mark Onyon, Director of Ambulance Services(August) -
Mark was nominated because “he has always done an outstanding
job and he maintains an extremely even keel” even in the face
of the many emergencies he has to handle. (See related article on
page 4; Mark will continue to teach CPR classes at Grace Cottage).
Suzanne Petronic, Business Office (September)
- “Suzanne is multi-task oriented. She’s always on the
phone with insurance companies, getting claims paid and acting as
an advocate for our patients.” Suzanne and her husband, Russell,
live in Townshend with their daughter, age three. Suzanne’s
been at Grace Cottage for three years.
| A grateful family writes ~
“We would like to thank the doctors and staff for all
their comfort at a most stressful time. Your care for patients
is outstanding!! It is wonderful to see the support that you
give! Thank you for all that was done.”
Our deepest appreciation,
The family of Eileen Wismann
(Eileen died at Grace Cottage in August, 2003). |
A SUMMER OF INTERNS
This summer, Grace Cottage played host to four medical students
whose internships were sponsored by Dr. Robert Backus, Dr. Tim Shafer,
and Messenger Valley Pharmacy. All of the interns quickly became
members of the Grace Cottage “family”, as they impressed
fellow employees with their youthful energy and enthusiasm. After
all, how many of us go out to pick flats of strawberries for co-workers
and for the Grace Cottage kitchen….before coming to work at
8 a.m.?! “I’m leaving a little bit of my heart here,
said Caroline Walker. “This is a very humane place, where
people know how important a friendly smile and a warm welcome are
to a sick patient.”

New Director of Ambulance
Services Named
Kim Francois has been hired as Grace Cottage’s
new Director of Ambulance Services, replacing Mark Onyon, who is
now working towards his Paramedic License at Greenfield Community
College and his commercial pilot’s license as well. “I’m
leaving the ambulance service in excellent hands,” said Mark.
“Kim’s been working as an ambulance volunteer at Grace
Cottage for two years, and I know from experience that she’s
extremely capable, organized and dedicated.”
Kim has been involved in ambulance and rescue work for over twenty
years—she started as a Junior Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
volunteer when she was 15, in Wurtsboro, New York (in the Catskill
Region). She became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and continued
to respond to rescue calls when not on duty during the day. “Rescue
work is in my blood—it’s my first love,” said
Kim, who has also been an LPN at Grace Cottage for over three years.
“I have lots of ideas and plans for Grace Cottage’s
Ambulance Service that I’m already starting to implement.”
Kim lives in Townshend with her son, Kyle, and daughter, Carey.
